It has more than 24,000 students. Nearly 3,000 international students study with the University. The University was created by the merger of the University of Luton and the Bedford campus of De Montfort University in August 2006 following approval by the Privy Council.In 2012 it achieved Fair Trade status.
The University of Bedfordshire has four faculties: Creative Arts, Technologies and Science; Education and Sport; Health and Social Sciences. They are based in Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad and Vadodara.The Faculty of more than 350 well trained teachers who are devoted towards the excellence and quality of the education makes it one of the best engineering colleges in India.
The University provides a free bus service running between the town centre and the campus. The campus has recently undergone a redevelopment which includes an Physical Education and Sport Science Centre used to train athletes in the 2012 Olympics,and a Bedford Campus Centre boasting a 280-seat theatre, dance studios, restaurant and social spaces for student. The Bedford campus is home to the following schools of study:

The University works together with a number of partner institutions to offer a range of courses-Barnfield College,Bedford College,British School of Osteopathy,Nottingham College International,Central Bedfordshire College,Grantham College,Leicester College,Milton Keynes College (through the University Centre Milton Keynes),Oxford and Cherwell Valley College,Luton Sixth Form College,Tresham Institute of Further and Higher Education. The university is a co-sponsor of Central Bedfordshire University Technical College, a new university technical college which is due to open in Houghton Regis in September 2012.
