ABOUT
The Department of Commerce was established in 1976 when globalisation and liberalisation were just unthought and unheard terrain in commercial and economic discourse. Since then the department has been providing quality education to the undergraduate and post graduate students and catering the need of the industry and service sector of the region in particular and the country in general. The huge migration from the region in search of job or the temptation for serving in the army and paramilitary forces was the general trend of employment among the youth during the 70s. At this crucial juncture the department of Commerce was established and offered various programmes and made efforts to attract the youth towards private and public sector jobs as well.
COURSE DETAILS
At present the Department of Commerce is providing quality education at undergraduate, post graduate level and Ph. D. course in regular mode. Where B. Com, M. Com and Ph. D are the regular programs and Diploma in Advertising, Sales Promotion and Sales Management is being offered as an add-on course. The CBCS pattern has been introduced since 2015-16 at UG and PG level wherein continuous monitoring of learning ability of students is being assessed. HNB Garhwal University has adopted & introduced New Education Policy-2020 and implemented at UG level since 2022-23 Academic Session.
RESEARCH
In view of the fast changing economic scenario, the department of Commerce is teaching and doing research in the areas of Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, International Business, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development. The research activity is an integral part of the department. At present the department is engaged in the quite upcoming and emerging areas of research such as corporate governance, green marketing, entrepreneurship, application of Balance Score Card, financial inclusion, different flagship programmes of the government, rural marketing, horticulture marketing, workplace spirituality, e-commerce and digitization etc. to meet the requirement of different sectors.
