A two-year postgraduate course in business studies, Master of Business Studies or MBS is open to all students who have completed their graduation, preferably in commerce and related fields. It is equivalent to an MBA, however, the admission procedure and syllabus is varied. Admission is based on undergraduate records as well as performance in a personal interview.
In addition to business administration, this course provides insights in business knowledge – international business management, business policy and strategic management, entrepreneurship and project management among others. There are numerous elective modules that students can choose, such as indirect taxation (central excise, VAT, and service tax); technical modules that teach basic programming useful for students; productivity management that measures performance and output; personnel administration that deals with human resource management; sales management that teaches the nuances of successful selling; portfolio management that trains students in dealing with and building on investments and their returns; manufacturing, and labour laws. At the end of the course students can look at management jobs, as well as jobs in sales, marketing, accounting, finance, and HR among others. They can also consider self employment options.
