The third largest city and the winter capital of Maharashtra is also proclaimed as the cleanest city and ranking second after Bangalore in the terms of Green City. Nagpur is a major education centre.
Nagpur University and the College of agriculture were built way back before Independence and till date they are considered amongst the respected institutes of India. Nagpur holds the elite Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology that is acclaimed as one of the finest engineering and technology institutions. Nuva College of Engineering & Technology, Nagpur Institute of Technology, Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering and Anjuman College of Engineering & Technology are considered to be great institutions offering different engineering courses.
National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) is a training ground for IRS and courses like IAS, IPS, etc. has been housed in the city of Nagpur. Institute of Management Technology located in Nagpur is considered to be one of the reputed Business school. Nagpur has three medical colleges namely Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC) and Lata Mangeshkar Medical College (LMC). Nagpur also has Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) regional centre where large number of students pursue education from certificate courses to Masters Degree programs.
