A two-year, full-time postgraduate programme, the Master of Fine Arts or MFA is open to all students who have successfully completed a bachelor’s degree in the field and seek further specialization in areas such film and media, painting, design etc. The syllabus varies according to the course opted by the student, for example, an MFA in painting helps students in developing their own style and medium at an advanced level; critically study different styles and modes of artistic expression dating from historical as well as contemporary periods; provides insights into art management and marketing and creates professionals and creative researchers in the field of fine arts. Thus it provides advanced knowledge of the field and helps students in exploring further career opportunities. It is generally recommended that students pursue this course after a year of more of work experience post their bachelor’s degree, as it helps them harness the skills acquired at the undergraduate level and polish their understanding of the work environment and its demands.
