Master of Arts
The Master of Arts or MA is postgraduate qualification available in a number of fields in humanities, such as English Literature, Political Science, and history. It is open to all students who have completed a graduate degree. However, it is not necessary for the student to have pursued undergraduate studies in arts in order to qualify for an MA programme.
Being a postgraduate course, MA is generally more specialized than a BA, and often involves niche modules. However, these may differ from institution to institution. Hence, it’s important in check the curriculum before applying for the course. Moreover, a number of Masters Courses are professional courses, especially courses in mass communication, education etc and require entrance examinations for admission. The course duration is 2-years, at the end of which students can apply for positions in the field of their choice. These days an MA has become a mandatory entry requirement for several jobs in the arts industry such as teaching, publishing, journalism etc.
