The 2-year professional qualification, the Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (DECE) is an application-oriented course for students interested in taking up a career teaching younger classes and in child development. It combines theoretical work with school experience, seminars, workshops etc to give aspirants a holistic view of field requirements. Modules include theory on early childhood care and education in India, health and nutrition for children, while practical lessons include teaching practice, performing arts, visual art and craft development, communication skills etc.
Close to 30 private institutes offer the course, recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and affiliated to the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). Since it’s a niche course offered by a handful of institutes, it’s best to approach individual colleges for entry requirements and eligibility.
