A one-year course, the diploma in computer hardware and networking is open to all students completing class 12. A technical qualification, the diploma covers fundamentals in computer hardware and networking, and enables students to opt for further specialization in the field as well as take up relevant employment.
The syllabus includes modules on the fundamentals of computer hardware, which covers basic concepts in electronics and in computers; networking essentials and protocols, which covers basics in networking such as LAN, WAN, and IP addressing; network operating system administration, which introduces students to various operating systems, online management of resources, files, folders and disks among other things; troubleshooting, which includes training in debugging and online viruses; network operating system infrastructure, which includes installing and monitoring servers; remote network administration, which includes training in various networking models, and emerging technologies in the field, which covers the fast-changing trends in technology and keeps students abreast of the latest developments. The course also includes a generic module which imparts life skills such as setting and achieving goals, stress management, and working in teams. The course requires substantial laboratory work and has a heavy practical component, in addition to theory and tutorials.
