A relatively recent academic qualification, the Bachelor of Elementary Education, also abbreviated as B.El.Ed is a 4-year, integrated undergraduate qualification in education that is offered by select universities around the countries. Admission is based on 12th cut-offs, and most institutes also have admission tests and interviews that quiz the applicants aptitude, reasoning, and attitude. The course curriculum includes theory examinations as well as practical internal assessments. It also involves internships, school-contact programmes, self-development workshops, and academic enrichment activities such as attending discussions, seminars, and forums on elementary education and related disciplines such as child psychology.
The course begins includes modules in child development, core mathematics, natural sciences, and social sciences, performing and fine arts, human relations, languages, basic concepts in education, school planning and management, and environmental studies. In the final year students are given the option of either opting for advanced teaching in mathematics, language, natural sciences, or social sciences, or specializing in computer education or special education. The course is highly recommended for students who have the knack of handling children and are keen on a career in teaching younger classes.
