Colleges for Advanced Diploma in Television Journa
When NDTV started India’s first 24X7 news channel in 2000, it sparked off a record-breaking trend. Today, broadcast media is an omnipresent phenomenon and one can find multiple news channels, from those covering news in Hindi and English, to regional channels presenting news in the various Indian languages such as Bengali. As the number of channels has increased, so have the opportunities and possibilities for journalism students aspiring to make it big in the dynamic media field.
An Advanced Diploma in Television Journalism (ADTJ) is a 1-year postgraduate qualification open to all students who have completed their graduation. Although an undergraduate degree in journalism is favourable, it is by no means an entry requirement. Anyone with a passion and aptitude for TV news can apply for this course. The syllabus covers everything from writing for broadcast productions to making audio-visual news features and editing footage. Since the number of seats is generally limited, eligibility requirements can be quite stringent at some institutes. Most courses require prospective students to appear in an entrance test as well as in interview. Besides traditional education institutes, several media organizations also offer this course, and students have a multitude of options to choose from. However, it’s best to exercise caution in selecting institutes, because the fees is high and many courses unfortunately do not end up providing value for money. Since it’s primarily a hands-on course, it’s best to check whether the institute has good infrastructure and is well-equipped. It is also worthwhile inquiring on eligibility requirement, syllabus, faculty, and placements.
