The subject Power Electronics is completely based upon Electronics engineering & its allied field of computer processor engineering. Power Electronics as the name suggests are used not only in designing main frame control processing systems for large scale enterprises but also used in VLSI design. VLSI means very large scale integration in creating integrated circuits by combining thousands of transistors into a single chip. What VLSI is used in industrial sectors are known as common electrical drives. Even in home appliances, transistors surrounded by multiple integrated chips are the main driving force. Since the subject is hardcore engineering subject, it is an interdisciplinary course of Electronics & Electrical engineering. The complex construction of power electronics are common to any heavy engineering enterprises such thermal power plant, hydro power plant, steel plant, cement plant and also in space science sectors & thus this power electronics works as electrical drives in their intra-terrain power structure.
To avail lucrative jobs in this subject after completing it, you have to sit for JEE or AIEEE for starting new career as boiler operators in heavy engineering thermal enterprises. Technical universities like WBUT, BIT, and IIT Kharagpur & IIT Roorkee & few private colleges offer B.Tech or B.E in Electronics engineering. Moreover, if you desire to pursue M.Tech or M.E in Power Electronics in IITs then you have to qualify GATE or IIT entrance test to complete your master’s degree. The job prospects are immense in India & outside of it, so, a valid degree can bring you a good career in future.
