Academic subjects in Arts & Sciences have been categorized into Humanities, Social Sciences & Earth Sciences. Humanities broadly encompasses within the nature & tentative scope of English literature & language. Since Humanities are a different genre, it is served as compulsory subjects in engineering colleges. Not only English literature & language but also vernacular regional language is put as an academic subject into Humanities. Social Sciences & Earth Sciences are different & they are included in any technological colleges. It is typical assumptions that Humanities & Social Sciences share similar features but English Language heavily falls into the Social Science category whereas English literature along with any regional vernacular language are classed into Humanities. English Literature as Humanities subject is the most vibrant & rich academic studies across the world. In many universities English Language & Literature, the study of European, Greek or Classical literature are of more interest than any other vernacular literature to students.
In many engineering colleges humanities & social sciences are taught to make students aware about their culture, the proper use of foreign language as if they should not face worse scenario during interview. Every universities including CU, DU, JU, BIT and WBUT have put these two subjects as foundational course. Moreover, in IITs you can obtain your MA certificate in Social Science thereby qualifying for PhD. In several universities social sciences include philosophy, political science, and history to complete BA or MA with specialization. Generally, you can choose your career after completing graduation or post graduation as teachers.
