As the name suggests H.R.M. is the management of human resources i.e. management of the organizational workforce. As the concept of total quality management grew, humans i.e. organized workforce was recognized as the one of the most important resource for the company’s development & specialization in human resource implies ability to handle this type of resource. H.R.M. is a highly competitive and sought after profession in the field of management. It involves recruiting personnel and their training, salary administration and handling union management relations. The major tasks performed by a human resource professional include developing job profiles, screening and interviewing candidates, administering and coordinating tests, conducting background checks of prospective employees and their training. A H.R.M. must be polite, patient, who listens to the grievances & tactfully tries to handle these. If a person is person is happy with the organization & is working with the group together then organization would prosper itself. A H.R. manager must know how to deal with each type of employee & make them work together eliminating status & social barriers. A HRM is also responsible for selection, training, assessment, & rewarding of employees. He ensures a fair relationship b/w company & its employees. Large companies often dedicate an entire department to HRM. Another major function of HRM is to resolve strikes which frequently occur. Hence, HRM acts as a facilitator b/w the company & its employees. Those which do not wish to join the company may setup their own business of HR consultancy. This course is often taught in management schools.
