Geography is the scientific study of lands, waters, their features and the phenomena of the earth & its impact upon inhabitants. It is a modern science that encompasses the studies of natural and human phenomena, places & regions & also the studies of earth sciences. Geography as an academic subject has been broadly categorized into two sub-fields namely human geography & physical geography. In human geography genre the study of various processes has been emphasized that has given shape to human civilization. On the other part, physical geography deals with lands, waters, formation of rocks etc. Since the subject relates to science & arts, so on this count one can pursue either BA or B Sc in Geography. If you wish to pursue BA in Geography then you cannot make your career into meteorological department where data are recorded for climate changes. Generally, BA in Geography will limit your career options as teacher only. But B.Sc & then M.Sc in Geography will offer you immense opportunities to start off your career as Geophysicist. You may also choose Geomatics, a branch of geography that has emerged in the 1950 to study cartography and topography, the traditional spatial techniques to understand the behavioral psychology of the earth shape.
Different branches of Geography have been distributed among reputed Universities. In IITs you can study Cartography, Geographic information systems, Remote sensing etc while pursuing M.Sc in Geography. Other universities like Calcutta University, Delhi University, and Burdwan University offer BA, B.Sc, and MA & M.Sc in Geography.
