The research studies of Colleges for Bioengineering promote scientific discovery and the development of new biomedical technologies and therapies through research and education. The Bioengineering Programme is supported by the Schools of Medicine and Engineering too. The Colleges for Bioengineering include research and teaching programs that embrace biology as a new engineering paradigm and apply engineering principles to medical problems and biological systems. Biomedical engineering is the study of engineering as applied in the medical sector such as manufacturing prostheses, medical equipment, diagnostic devices and drugs. Professionals in this field are known as a biomedical engineers. The biomedical engineers utilize the engineering methods and theories to enhance health care. Orthopaedic and rehabilitation engineering, molecular, cellular and tissue engineering are also a part of this discipline.
