A three-year undergraduate degree in computer science, the Bachelor of computer application or BCA is an excellent course for those keen on computer programming. At the start of the course, students take technical modules such as programming principles and algorithms, “C” programming, and file structure and database concepts, as well as soft subjects such as business communication, organizational behaviour, principles of management and cost accounting. However, from the second year onwards, technical education takes precedence with subjects like networking, software engineering, e-commerce, multimedia systems, core and advanced Java, and Internet programming and cyber law. The course has a significant practical component, and includes regular computer laboratory work as well as projects. Admission is based on 12th results as well as entrance tests, and it is best to approach individual universities for eligibility criteria and course prospectus.
